Rail

In rail vehicle construction, the scope for bonding ranges from large front modules through glazing to smaller interior components. This industry meets the highest safety standards and therefore places the highest demands on materials and processes. The proof of fire properties for materials and material composites is defined by the industry-specific standard EN 45545-2.
Depending on the safety requirements, the use of materials is tied to an extended scope of qualification. We offer products that have extended certificates or are already qualified by OEMs and large railway operators.

Fire-retardant structural adhesives for rail vehicles

In addition to the elastic adhesives, various structural adhesives are available which have been tested according to EN 45545-2. These products are mostly used for bondings with low safety requirements (e.g. for smaller interior components).

Glass bonding for rail vehicles

In addition to new glazing at the OEM, the replacement of panes in the event of repairs is an important economic factor for railway operators. Short repair and departure times due to rapid curing are required. 1- and 2-component adhesives are also available as cartridges for mobile use. Some of the materials are qualified by OEMs and large railway operators and tested according to EN45545-2.

Joint sealing & joint filling for rail vehicles

In addition to bonding, joint sealing is an important factor in rail vehicles to prevent the penetration of water and corrosion. The joint materials are easy to smooth for a visually appealing joint. They have been tested for their resistance to railway-specific media (e.g. cleaning agents). The materials are partly qualified by OEMs and large railway operators and tested according to EN45545-2.

Materials for the electrical casting of rail vehicles

Rail vehicles have a large number of electronic components for the drive and in the systems. Electronic components are usually protected by embedding them in special casting resins. We offer a wide range of casting resins tested to EN 45545-2.

Structural bonding of exterior components & interior of rail vehicles

On the outside, GFK structures are glued to the steel wagon box. Due to the component size and different material properties, the adhesive joint must be elastic but high-strength. 1- and 2-component polyurethane adhesives are used. The two-component technology ensures the curing of large adhesive beads without additional humidity. Some of the materials are qualified by OEMs and large railway operators and tested according to EN45545-2.

Surface pretreatment for rail vehicles

A clean and grease-free surface is necessary to ensure a high-strength, durable bond. Surfaces are treated with suitable cleaners. In some cases additional primers are used to increase the adhesive strength and long-term durability. The products (cleaners, primers, adhesives) are matched to each other and the material combinations are partly qualified by railway OEMs and large railway operators.
